Students will begin to learn the full range of notes for their respective instruments, and will offer four performances each year.  First we will learn music to be performed at a Middle School Football game and Pep Rally, then we will learn selections for our winter concert.  In the Spring semester we will learn music to be used at the Concert Performance Assessment contest. Students will conclude the year with a Spring concert tour and final performance.

Music
7th Grade General Music - Students in this class will learn the art of Music Composition. Fist students will learn the art of lyric writing and the components of that process.  The lyrics we create will be sent to the Country Music Hall of Fame where a local singer/songwriter will create a piece of music from compositions from our class.  Next students will learn the art of music theory.  We will learn the basics of notation and reading music.  Students will compose a four-line song based on this information using the rules for basic music theory.  Finally, we will hear a concert, performed by the Country Music Hall of Fame artist, comprised of our original lyrics.
8th Grade General Music-  In this class we will be studying the vast history of music.  We will begin with the classical style, learning its roots in ancient music, and charting the path music takes through the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern Eras. Then we will look at the unique styles of music from here in America as we study Blues, Jazz, Broadway, Rock, and Country music. Students will listen to a vast selection of music from across the spectrum of styles and hopefully gain an appreciation for the course the art of sound has taken over time.
